user32.dll was relocated in memory

Recently, an IRC user with a nick of clarinette contacted me on IRC

My precious laptop is sick! When she starts a message says:

Rthdcpl.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

Now I can't use my wireless Internet.

Clarinette was the victim of a flawed Microsoft security upgrade. The flaw is discussed in the Microsoft Knowledge base article number 935448 and the solution is on the same page. This flaw troubles users with RealTek firmware.

To resolve this message and related problems, execute the following procedure :

  • Download the 935448 package

    • Click Download
      • To start the installation immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location.
      • To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.

That is really all there is to this problem. and after following those steps, Clarinette exclaimed …

for the pleasure of viruses, hackers, spam ……… the laptop is again online

I just love these machines when in order. I hate PC2 that refuses to start. had no time for the suggested surgery. Stay out of order.
Take care, surf safe.

and clarinette is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
sniffffffff, getting angry, frustrated.
HELPPPPPPPPPP

Last things first

Don't let frustrations unnecessarily complicate recovery.

I've not seen you in the #WiredSafety channel for many days and since your nick is not registered, the bots don't remember when you drop in. I've some telepathic sense of your frustrations.

That said, let's continue to the source of your troublings. We should learn exactly what models your Packard Bell and HP computers are. There are late model Packard Bells with BIOS/Windows incompatibilities. Knowing if PC 2 is one of those will help.

To the point of voiding warranty: your warranty period is most likely expired. That is merely a probability, not a concern; you will not need to break the CD seal to move it -- only disconnect cables and remove mounting screws.

That brings us to PC 1, proper ... after the transplant, you should be able to read and boot from the CD. That drive could be the whole problem, but we won't know that until you replace it. If it is the problem, a new CD drive could be in your future for one of PC 1 or PC 2.

Dear Deep,

Dear Deep,
You haven't seen me because not only very busy but also whenever connected to MIRC Wiredsafety, felt really lonely with just myself to talk to!!!! where have you been disappearing ????
You're absolutely right about the PC1 warranty. I let it get tired opening and closing the CD writer tongue, you could thing the study was transformed into a factory. It finally had enough and stopped. It's now working.
Yes, BUT.... has completely forgotten everything about Belkin!!!!!!! therefore no more internet!!!!! Laptop, still connected, has forgotten all about wireless !!!! is now working when connected via cable !!!
The reason? No no, no ghost. Tiscali has had network problem in the whole area. No connection for few days. I had to spend time with their helpline to reconfigure etc...
PC 2, still sleeping snifffffff snifffff
My decision : starting a Computer course in September, strong resolution. Maybe you could also advice be on some online courses.
In the meantime : PC 1 = HP Pavillion 7934
PC2 = Packard Bell 1137
Have a nice day
