DaGeek & Geek Wyrld

Who Is Deep Geek?

Deep GeekI am not a self-righteous technodeity … regurgitating recipes for optimal system utility. I am the first of Geek Wyrld, and my friends call me the Deep Geek. That endearment is greatly appreciated because it was bestowed – not self-appointed.

My moniker could result from a long history with computing, networking, engineering, and a passion for learning. It could reflect my obsession for quality. It could describe my fascination with evolving technologies. Never, has it bothered me: knowing the etymology of "geek". Never, has it bothered me: being different. Never, has it bothered me: sharing what I have learned.

The Geek Is Not Alone

Announcements of other geek populations, such as Geek Squad and Rent-@-Geek, make it patently obvious that the Deep Geek is not the only geek. Even at Geek Wyrld, I am not alone. Neither am I most nor least garrulous of geeks. Possibly, there are none more loquacious than I at Geek Wyrld, but many are able and willing to be geek – at task.

The Geek Evolves

We must crawl before we walk before we run. The same is true to every level of expertise. I was, initially, a nervous novice without a notion of effectiveness. I studied the work of my mentor – amazed at how little of my mentor's effort could result in the same products that wearied me; I evolved to an accomplished apprentice. In time, confidence built that I could manage my own affairs and help when others asked –and that is where I am today.

I continue evolving. By the grace of others, in my wayfaring, I will master apprentices. I might never achieve the wyzard role, but as I live and breathe the Deep Geek evolves.

The Novice

Geek Wyrld could not be without the novice. The everyday users of computers, without sufficient knowledge of the systems they employ are challenged by underutilized utilities. Some easy keyboard combinations replace acrobatic mouse manipulations and enable marked productivity improvement. Some practices reduce impact of distraction during productive surges. At Geek Wyrld, someone already learned what a distressed novice needs to know. The mission at Geek Wyrld, echoes from MyDLLURTH: Empower every wyrld without prejudice.

Whether the challenge is hardware, software, or just WHERE???, Geek Wyrld is here for the asking. There is one catch … support at Geek Wyrld is subscription service. Except when site directors and the most advanced support staff post symptoms from site service calls and telephoned service requests, only subscribers can create new content.

With one exception, the Geek Wyrld support community only publishes comments to online requests from paying customers. Registered users can join us in the Chaos forum and see Geek Wyrld in a social light.

Apprentice, Geek, Master, Wyzard

After directors and subcribers put requests online, any registered user can share expertise in comments to the published requests. The Geek Wyrld support community works to find quick solution to all service requests. Comments might be request for more detail of the problem, or there might be an account of how similar problems have been resolved. Ultimately, only the service request originator may declare the problem solved; when a problem is resolved, directors may ask the originator to identify comments leading to the satisfactory solution.

Points are awarded to all participants, including the originator, for their contribution in solving real system problems. Points will be withdrawn for misleading information. In this evaluation stage, each participant's accumulated points indicate competence as part of Geek Wyrld's support community. Novice will rise to apprentice rank; apprentice will rise to geek or fall to novice. A geek may graduate to be a master, or the geek may return to apprentice. A master A wyzard could evolve from a master, or a master may need more time as geek. The most valuable support comes from wyzards at Geek Wyrld, however, wyzard contributions are equally rare as their necessity.

Geek Wyrld Employment

Geek Wyrld does not offer employment. However, it is in the interest of the board of directors to redistribute a significant percentage of subscriptions to contributors. For each subscription, one half of the income is divided into escrow accounts for all participants according to merit and attained role at the conclusion of the service request.
